Course Requisite Enforcement
Requisites are used to prevent students from gaining entrance into classes if they do not meet specific requirements. They are attached to courses on the Course Catalog and carry on to schedule in the sections of the course, where additional or alternate requisites may be applied. If students do not meet requirements they are not allowed into classes.
What is a Requisite Check?
Requisite Checks encompass course requisites based on a variety of factors including
- grade point average,
- hours completed,
- courses,
- test scores,
- transfer credit,
- milestones,
- membership in group(s),
- degree/major, and
- much more!
Virtually every prerequisite or corequisite for courses can be articulated with Requisite Checking.
Requisite Checks can also be used for reserving space in classes. The Requisite Check is created to designate reserve capacity for students who meet a defined criteria.
Considerations for Use
There are considerations to be made when deciding when to use Requisite Checking:
- Requisite Check development is limited to clearly defined academic catalog language.
- They must be maintained as changes are made to the course, test, policy, milestone, groups, etc..
- The impact is immediate, so if your students have not had enough notice, timing for implementation needs to be thought through.
