Dear Faculty,
We’re midway through the semester, and Thanksgiving is just weeks away.
Admittedly, it may be hard to focus on the upcoming holiday. This is usually a time for grading midterms or mid-semester assignments, completing grant applications, or you are deeply engaged in your respective research projects.
No matter how busy you are, I know that students are your priority. Your guidance and advice are important to them as they prepare to finish out the semester.
No matter your mid-semester activities, you are making a difference at the University. You take pride in supporting our Coogs and advancing our University. I recognize that when I meet our faculty at events like the recent Faculty Celebration.
It was pleasure to host that event, and I was pleased to see such a great turnout. We had music, a photo booth, prizes, and, of course, our talented faculty in attendance. The real highlight, however, was seeing so many Faculty Medallions in the Penick Center.
It was inspiring to be in a room filled with so many longstanding faculty members. It is this kind of faculty loyalty and longevity that has supported the University’s growth for nearly a century. It is also this kind of dedication that has helped so many UH students cross the finish line with degrees in hand. Your commitment to our institution and our students is helping UH adapt to a dynamic higher education landscape. The experience of our seasoned faculty also inspires the new professors joining our campus.
You can read more about the Faculty Medallions in this edition of Academic Update, and I look forward to recognizing your achievements during future events, including next year’s Faculty Awards.
Speaking of which, it is time to begin submitting nominations for the Esther Farfel Award and Moores Professorships. You can learn about the nomination processes on the respective award web pages or on the Faculty Awards site.
Thank you for your hard work and your loyalty to the University of Houston!
Respectfully,
Diane Z. Chase
UH Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
