For decades, the University of Houston has been home to nationally recognized visual and performing arts programs. Ten years ago, those disciplines were brought together under one umbrella: the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts.

Spring break is upon us! The campus should become a little quieter, despite the ongoing construction. While many of you might take some well-deserved time off, I know that our faculty’s work is never quite done. Whether you are grading assignments, finalizing research, or overseeing creative activities, I hope your break is both restful and productive.
The University of Houston and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts have positioned themselves as leaders in arts and health. Over the past six years, that work has included academic programming, research and engagement at the community, national and international levels.
Patricia Belton Oliver will step down from her role as dean of the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design. A nationwide search will soon be conducted for the college's next leader. Dean Oliver will continue to lead the college until a finalist is identified.
