A Resident Advisor (RA) is a student staff member who is under the supervision of a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC), serves as a liaison between Student Housing & Residential Life (SHRL) and residents and works within a diverse community of students to foster student success. RA Qualifications:
- Have a minimum a 2.75 semester and cumulative GPA at the time of the application and appointment. Additionally, RAs must maintain a 2.75 semester GPA for continuous employment.
- Be in good standing with SHRL and the University of Houston (UH) academically, financially and in conduct.
- Lived on campus for one semester (or other approved similar experience).
- Attend one of the mandatory RA information sessions listed below.
Resident Advisor (RA) Position Requirements:
- Commit to serving in the position for the full academic year, fall 2025 to spring 2026 (December graduates are ineligible to apply).
- Sign an on-campus Housing Agreement ($99 agreement fee before August 2025 start date).
- Understand and agree that RAs cannot hold any additional paid on-campus position or paid leadership role with UH while employed as an RA.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings every Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. throughout the fall and spring semesters.
- Attend mandatory training Aug. 8-22, 2025, and Jan. 9-16, 2026.
- Serve on an on-call rotation, including during breaks and holidays.
Mandatory Information Sessions
All individuals interested in applying for an RA position for the 2025-2026 academic year are required to attend a mandatory information session. No exceptions will be made. During these sessions, you will learn about the RA position and have the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the application process and position. Both in-person and virtual sessions will be available to accommodate various schedules and preferences.

RA Application Process Timeline
- Oct. 21, 2024: New RA application opens. To apply, log in to AccessUH and click the myHousing icon.
- Jan. 17, 2025: New RA application closes at 11:59 p.m.
- Jan. 31, 2025: You will receive an email either inviting you to interview for the position or informing you that we are unable to offer you an interview at this time.
- Jan. 31, 2025, to Feb. 5, 2025: If you receive an interview offer, sign up for your 30-minute in-person interview date and time (instructions will be provided in your interview invitation email).
- Week of Feb. 17, 2025: Individual interviews will take place. These interviews will last 30 minutes. Please note, failing to attend your interview without prior notification will result in removal from the RA interview and selection process.
- March 10, 2025: Decision letters are sent to applicants via email.
