Year 1/Freshman (0 - 30 hours)
Welcome first-year students! From your very first day on campus, you will be presented with limitless opportunities that will shape your UH experience. Make sure to take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved.
Academic Success
Build a strong foundation for success at UH.
- Review your Academic Map and meet with your academic advisor.
- Learn degree requirements and create a plan for staying on track to graduation.
- Check your syllabi for professor office hours. Attending office hours is a great way for your professor to get to know you and provide support and advice. If you're not sure how to connect with your professor, reach out to a PAL for guidance.
- Join study groups and take advantage of tutoring resources such as LAUNCH, SEP, the Writing Center, and CASA.
- Study groups are helpful because your classmates can help you understand tricky topics. You can reserve a study space in the University Library or find a comfortable space on campus to meet with your classmates.
- Prioritize your well-being through campus wellness and recreation resources.
Career Readiness
Begin exploring your future.
- Connect with University Career Services and learn about available resources.
- Create a professional email address and build a positive online presence.
- Explore majors, career pathways, and areas of interest.
- Learn about internships and experiential learning opportunities.
- Consider global learning opportunities, including study abroad.
