To compete for the Tier One Scholarship, incoming Fall 2027 freshman students should complete the following by November 2, 2026 at 5:00pm (CT) :

• The application for undergraduate admission to the University of Houston
• The Tier One Scholarship online application (application opens Aug 1)
• Letter of Recommendation (deadline: November 9, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.)*

*A letter of recommendation must be uploaded directly by the recommender. Your recommender will be contacted with instructions to submit the recommendation. Your recommender should know you well (high school teacher, school administrator, club advisor, etc.). The scholarship applicant is responsible for ensuring that the recommendation letter is submitted on time. 

As in previous years, if you have a 1400 SAT or 30 ACT composite score and rank in the top 10% of your class, you'll improve your chances of qualifying for this scholarship. Test optional candidates are considered.

Top-scoring applicants will be invited to participate in a virtual interview on one of the following dates: December 16, 17, 18. Applicants selected for the interview round will be notified by December 4, 2026.
