TMF Emerging Artist Jazz Institute
June 16-22, 2024
Description:
A program for emerging artists (18-30) that provides an immersive, performance-oriented environment. Directed by renowned trombonist and bandleader Vincent Gardner and pianist/educator Eric Reed. Final performance June 22, 2 p.m., Moores Opera House.What to look forward to:
- The opportunity to work with elite jazz musicians and educators
- Ensemble and sectional rehearsals
- Improvisation, theory, and jazz history classes
- Master classes
- Texas Music Festival concert admission
- Final performance in the Moores Opera House

Application Requirements
Application Requirements:
- Open to emerging jazz artists aged 18-30.
- Completed application with non-refundable $40 application fee (payable by credit card through Acceptd application portal) due June 1, 2024.
Audition Requirements:
• A performance of either 4 choruses of Blues or 2 choruses of Rhythm Changes with one chorus of melody chorus in the beginning, medium tempo with backing track.
• A previously recorded capture from a live performance of your choosing.Tuition and Fees
Tuition and Fees (all fees are non-refundable):
- Application fee: $40 (Due with completed application by June 1, 2024, payable by credit card only, through Acceptd. Checks or cash not accepted)
- Tuition: $895 (Due upon acceptance no later than June 1, payable by credit card only through Acceptd). Limited scholarship assistance is available. Contact TMF staff for information.
- Housing/meals*: $535 (optional, includes 6 nights in UH Cougar Village I, single room in two-person suite, and 3 meals daily)

FAQ:
Is there a residential option?
- Yes, participants are housed on campus in the dormitory. Rooms are two persons per room, in a two-room suite, with shared bath.
- Please note that housing is not guaranteed for applicants after May 15.
How do I park on campus?
- Parking permits for the duration of the Institute are available for a $40 fee. Parking registration information will be provided in the weeks leading up to the Institute.
- Alternatively, daily guest parking is available in lot 16B. You can find more information about directions, text-to-pay and guest parking HERE.
How/when do I pay?
- Full tuition is due on June 1 through the Acceptd portal.

Is there a residential option?
- There is no residential option. All students register for the commuter camp.
Can my child carpool with another student to/from camp? Can my child drive themselves to/from camp? Can they drive with another student?
- Students are allowed to drive or carpool to campus. Each vehicle must have a pre-activated parking registration to park in Lot 16B to avoid ticketing or towing.
