Appointment Types
Under development; please check back later this week (8/3-8/7)!
Health Professions Advising at UH works with currently enrolled UH students, providing guidance with the professional school preparation and application process.
Standard Advising Appointments
There is a lot to know about health professions, so we break it down into a few appointments that build on information and get progressively more detailed. Our students follow this sequence for appointments with us:
- Foundation Appointment: This appointment is designed to cover general information about your chosen health
profession that will serve as your fundamental first step with our office. In addition
to website review, it includes an informational quiz (not for a grade, just to get
you onboarded!).
- Important note: While you sign up for an "appointment time", you can do the appointment at your convenience using the quiz link in your confirmation email. Once you have completed the quiz, you will receive another email inviting you to make a group appointment.
- Second Appointment (group): This appointment is a group appointment, with several students who are interested
in the same health profession as you. This is a chance for you to ask questions about
the general information you have reviewed and more specific questions about becoming
a competitive applicant or other relevant questions.
- Once you have attended a group appointment, you are eligible for individual appointments. Many students don't need individual appointments until their second year at UH.
- Individual Appointments: These are available for students who have completed both first and second appointments with our office, and are for specific and individualized questions.
The appointments are organized by your chosen area of professional interest, so if you switch from one area to another, you would start at the foundation point again. If your chosen area of professional interest isn't shown as an option, please email us (prehealth@uh.edu).
GPA Calculation Appointments
Health Professions Advising also offers GPA Calculation Appointments for students to help them determine their GPAs for health professions programs applications. Since GPAs are calculated differently for different application services and include all graded college coursework, it can be confusing- we are here to help! The appointments are organized by your chosen area of professional interest, so please make sure you've selected the right area!
Important note: This is an email appointment, so you will receive an email at the time of the appointment providing your GPA.
