CPT Wivell is an AGR (Active Guard Reserve) officer with the Texas Army National Guard. He serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science for the MSI (freshman) class, as well as the Army National Guard Liaison Officer.

CPT Wivell commissioned in 2015 as an Infantry officer from the ROTC program at the University of Colorado, Boulder where he was also an SMP Cadet. Following IBOLC and Ranger school at Fort Benning, CPT Wivell joined 1st Battalion 157th Infantry, 86th Mountain Brigade Combat Team where he served as Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Company Commander twice. He deployed to Kosovo as part of Operation Joint Guardian in 2021 where he commanded seven teams of foreign partner forces to support local security and stability operations in the northern districts. CPT Wivell transferred to the Texas Army National Guard following the deployment and was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer with 3rd Squadron 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

CPT Wivell joined the University of Houston Army ROTC program in 2024.
